Launch of the campaign for cleaning agricultural reservoirs
Updated on 21/08/2026
In the face of drought episodes, water reservoirs have been heavily used this summer. Many of them are at very low water levels. Over the years, numerous reservoirs have lost a significant portion of their water storage capacity.
Following an intense irrigation campaign, these reservoirs are nearly empty. This situation presents an opportunity that must be seized to carry out dredging operations, which will help recover water volumes essential for agriculture. The department of Tarn-et-Garonne has 5,749 reservoirs with potentially recoverable water volumes. For this reason, Sébastien Cauwel, Prefect of Tarn-et-Garonne, wished to initiate an action facilitating the dredging of agricultural reservoirs.
The Departmental Directorate of Territories (DDT) of Tarn-et-Garonne and the Chamber of Agriculture of Tarn-et-Garonne are launching a campaign aimed at facilitating these dredging operations for water bodies, so that they may regain their full capacity.
A simplified form was sent to agricultural operators early last week, to enable the start of dredging work this autumn. This accelerated procedure targets water bodies known to the administration that do not present structural defects.
Within this framework, the DDT and the Chamber of Agriculture are organizing workshops to advise farmers on their dredging work applications. A first meeting took place this Friday, 21 August, with around ten farmers. The next meeting will be held at the Chamber of Agriculture on Monday, 7 September 2026, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
