Water Use Restrictions in Haute-Garonne: New Order Effective from Saturday, 12 September 2026

Updated on 11/09/2026

The rainfall deficit observed since last spring, combined with high temperatures, continues to maintain water levels in rivers at particularly low levels. No significant rainfall is expected in the coming days.

Under these conditions, the available water resource for maintaining low flows must be preserved to ensure full coverage of the entire low-flow period until the end of October, and it is therefore necessary to implement new restriction measures to protect aquatic environments and secure drinking water supply until the end of the low-flow period.

For the Garonne, the threshold for enhanced alert has now been reached: corresponding restrictions are being implemented by decree this Saturday.

In this context, Fabrice Rigoulet-Roze, Prefect of the Occitanie region and of Haute-Garonne, has decided to strengthen water use restrictions effective from Saturday, 12 September 2026 at 8 a.m., on the following watercourses:

| | | |

| --- | --- | --- |

| Alert zone | Current order (29/08/26) | New restrictions effective 12/09/2026 |

|---|---|---|

| The Garonne | Alert | Enhanced alert |

| The Neste system and Aussoue | Enhanced alert | Crisis |

| The Arize | Alert | Enhanced alert |

| Aussonnelle | Enhanced alert | Crisis |

| Ger basin | Enhanced alert | Crisis |

| Ru du Maudan | Watch | Enhanced alert |

Other currently in-force restrictions are:

  • Crisis: Tescou, Volp, Salat, Arbas, and all small watercourses in ONDE zones
  • Enhanced alert: La Lèze and rivers connected to the Neste canal and its derived canals, including the Aussoue river;
  • Alert: Sor basin, Tarn, Ariège, and Hers-Vif
  • Watch: the rest of the department

Alongside restrictions on water withdrawals from natural environments, all municipalities in the department are subject to limitations on drinking water use: 146 are at alert level, 241 at reinforced alert, 5 in crisis, and 193 at vigilance.

The prefecture calls on all users—individuals, local authorities, farmers, businesses, and industrial operators—to adopt water-saving behaviors. Preserving this resource is a collective challenge requiring the mobilization of everyone.

State services continue to monitor hydrological conditions on a daily basis and will adjust management measures if changes in flow rates or meteorological conditions warrant it.

Details of management and restriction measures applied to the affected watercourses (withdrawals from watercourses and their associated groundwater)

The management and restriction measures applied to withdrawals from watercourses and their associated groundwater are as follows:
