Closure of the copper network

With the France Très Haut Débit plan, the outdated, fragile, and costly-to-maintain copper network is gradually being replaced by fiber optics, which offers higher speeds, greater reliability, and lower energy consumption.

The copper network will be closed in January 2026 for the first municipalities in Alpes-Maritimes:

* Saint-Paul-de-Vence

* Cap d'Ail

* La Colle-sur-Loup

* Villeneuve-Loubet

* Théoule-sur-Mer

affecting 31,294 housing units.

The pilot committee for the closure of the copper network met on 29 September 2025, presided over by Patrick Amoussou-Adéblé, General Secretary of the prefecture, with the presence of State services, Orange, other fiber infrastructure operators, and local authorities, to prepare the continuation of the rollout of the closure plan for the copper network in Alpes-Maritimes.

Prior to these closures, customers still using the copper network are being supported by their commercial operator to switch to fiber or another alternative solution.

By 2030, the copper network will be permanently closed across the entire department, affecting 900,000 housing units.
